RV Traveling with Pets

When you want to go camping with your whole family, you don’t want to leave anyone behind, like your beloved pets. Why not take Fluffy or Rover along on your next adventure? Dogs and cats can easily travel in an RV if you take some precautions and do some prep work. Here are some tips on how to travel with pets in your RV.

For the Road Trip

When you’re driving with your pet on board, you want to make sure that they’re safe. Beware of slide-outs and places where your pet can get stuck.

If your RV is towable, never let your pet ride in the trailer alone. Have the pet up in the towing vehicle with you and the rest of your family. Secure your pet in their carrier when the vehicle is in motion because a pet allowed to roam could panic or get in the way of the driver, creating a dangerous situation.

While driving, stop frequently to allow your pet to drink water, eat, relieve themselves, and walk around on their leash or harness. Try not to leave your pet alone in the RV when you’re camping unless you can keep the temperature in the trailer or motorhome controlled.

For the Vacation

Just like everyone else in your family, your pet is accustomed to a normal daily routine. Disturbing this routine while you travel can make your pet anxious and upset and more liable to become sick.

Try to maintain their schedule as much as you can while traveling. This means feeding your pet at the same times every day that you do at home, taking them for their usual walks and administering any medicines at the normal times. Sticking to a routine will help both you and your pet to feel more secure while you’re on vacation.
